Afternoons and Traffic

It’s that time of the day. Actually, it’s a little early for that time of the day judging by the fact that there are still three and a half hours left till the end of the working day. But it’s hit me and I feel it–it’s that afternoon drowsiness.

I had a full meal and my body is telling me I need to rest and digest. I can feel myself dosing off and being jerked awake only by the fear that someone is coming to fill their cups with water. Of course I get seated next to the water dispenser. Whenever a colleague needs to hydrate, he or she sees me on pinterest, falling asleep, or drawing angry bunnies on my notebook.

Do you know what the worst part of this afternoon drowsiness is? It’s that I have nothing to look forward to after work. So even when 6pm rolls around, I will still have to continue this battle on the streets, where sweaty, exhausted, but aggressive office people race to squish into a train or fight for a seat on a bus. And then there’s the excruciating frustration I feel as the bus gets stuck in traffic that is as slow as a race between a thousand old, dying snails.

Wow… This was a depressing and whiney post.

Time for a bathroom break.
